Need nutitional information for my 10 year old mare. She is off the track and had been bred once. I am interested in breeding her again.

Hi Susan -

I added a link to a broodmare nutrition article per your request. Feeding a broodmare that is an ex-racehorse shouldn't be any different than feeding a non-racehorse. One thing to keep in mind is that you need to make sure she's in tip-top shape before you try to breed her (research shows that mares in good condition to slightly fat get pregnant more easily and maintain that pregnancy than mares that are thin or losing weight). Good luck!

When I bred my mare, I added Mare Plus to her diet and kept her in light work(hacking and dressage). She was not competition fit when she was bred and took on the first cover. I even rode her lightly during the first 6 months of her pregnancy because she was getting bored and started chewing on the fences. The light work and attention made her happy. She needed mental care too.
